Veteran filmmaker Jang Kil Soo, the writer and director behind such films as 1998's
Paradise Lost and 1991's
Silver
Stallion brings this touching tale of two siblings to the silver screen. Co-produced by Cinema System, Shincine, and Cinepark,
The Crescent Moon made its debut at the Montreal World Film Festival in 2003 before being given a limited release two
years later. Now with this DVD version, this poignant, emotionally-charged film can finally reach a wider audience.
The Crescent Moon centers on a young boy named Nan Na, who lives alone with his grandmother (Kang Boo Ja) in a sleepy
seaside community. At the age of four, Nan Na gets a shock when his grandmother introduces him to his baby sister, Ok-I (Han
Ye Rin). Resentful of her presence, he has a tough time adapting to his sudden role as big brother. As she grows older, Ok-I
is revealed to suffer from a physical deformity: a hump on her back. If that weren't enough, the family soon undergoes severe
hardships when the grandmother is hurt and can no longer provide for her two grandchildren.
The two siblings migrate to the big city with their uncle in the hopes of improving their situation, but it turns out that
even more difficulties await them at their new destination. Eventually, Nan Na adjusts to his guardian-like role towards Ok-I,
but a shocking discovery about her origins will impel him to make a fateful decision that will change everything. To remedy
his mistake, Nan Na embarks on a personal quest, but it is journey that will have bittersweet results for everyone involved...
Featuring appearances by popular TV actress Jang Seo Hee (Ghost House), Ki Joo Bong (Crying Fist), Yang Mi
Kyung (Dae Jang Geum), Kim Il Woo, and Lee Sang Hyun, Crescent Moon is a stirring, heartwrenching motion picture
that viewers won't soon forget!
