Hoshino (Yosuke Kubozuka), aka "Peco" by his peers, and his buddy Tsukimoto (Arata), aka "Smile" because he hasn't smiled in years, are two lifelong friends who love the game of ping pong. Cocky and rather wild, Peco plays ping pong with an attitude and does things his way. He never attends any of the local high school training sessions and instead goes to a local ping pong joint run by an old granny, playing for bets. Smile, on the other hand, has natural talent for the game, but never shows it off and intentionally loses to Peco because of their friendship. His coach (Naoto Takenaka), and everyone else recognizes it, but Smile ignores their words.

But when a ping pong master from China named Kong (Sam Lee) is imported to play in their local tournament, Peco and Smile is quick to join the competition to test their skills. Peco of course loses to Kong, but Smile, determined to win for his friend's face, trains to beat Kong . . .
