REVIEWS/SYNOPSIS:
After the death of her mother,
a young 9-year-old girl named Azumi is saved and adopted by Jiji (Yoshio Harada), a former Samurai master and general with
the Imperial army. After ten years of training, Jiji gathers his ten students, nine males and one girl - Azumi, and tells
them that all their lives they have been trained for one purpose - to carry out only one mission - maintain peace at all costs.
Their mission is so important that he pairs them up with their favorite classmate, then tells them that, in order to be the
greatest assassin, one must forget all ties and to do so would mean that they must kill even their loved one - their paired
classmate.
After the duel, only 5 warriors
remain, including Azumi. Led by Jiji, they descend from the mountains to carry out their mission - to assassinate three of
the strongest shogun lords from neighboring provinces who plan to ally together and start war on their land, against their
lord, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Their first target is Asano Nagamasa (Masato Ibu), a lecherous lord who was one of their lord's former
allies. Nagamasa proved an easy target against Azumi's ten years of martial training. But their next target, Kato Kiyomasa
(Naoto Takenaka) proved to be a hard target. Guarded by Inoue Kanbei (Katsuki Kitamura) and his band of ninjas and coupled
with Kiyomasa's brilliance (in hiring other assassins to hunt down Azumi and her friends), their mission is no walk in the
park . . .
